Discrimination can damage your wellbeing and career. Taking action early protects your rights. Expert legal advice ensures fair treatment and strengthens your position for the best possible outcome.
Feeling discriminated against at work can be upsetting and isolating. You have rights and we’re here to protect them.
Under the Equality Act 2010, it’s unlawful for your employer to discriminate against you because of a protected characteristic, including:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Marriage or civil partnership
- Pregnancy or maternity
- Race
- Religion or belief
- Sex
- Sexual orientation.
What does discrimination look like?
- Direct discrimination: being treated less favourably because of a protected characteristic.
- Indirect discrimination: rules or policies that disadvantage a group with a protected characteristic without objective justification.
- Harassment: behaviour related to a protected characteristic or of a sexual nature that intimidates, humiliates, or offends.
- Victimisation: being treated badly for raising a discrimination complaint or supporting someone else’s discrimination complaint.
- Discrimination arising from disability: being treated unfavourably because of something resulting from your disability without objective justification.
- Failure to make reasonable adjustments: failing to take reasonable steps to avoid substantial disadvantage linked to disability.
- Associative discrimination: suffering discrimination because of someone else’s protected characteristic, such as a family member.
