UK Visas – Global Talent Visa

Immigration advice for individuals

The UK Global Talent visa offers skilled professionals a clear, strategic route to live and work in the UK, empowering individuals to access world-class opportunities and advance their careers with confidence.

The Global Talent visa is designed for individuals who are recognised as leaders or emerging leaders in academia or research, arts and culture or digital technology. It offers flexibility and a clear and potentially faster route to settlement, making it an attractive option for highly skilled professionals.

Who can apply?

You can apply if you:

  • Are aged 18 or over
  • Work in one of these fields: academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology
  • Can demonstrate exceptional talent or exceptional promise through endorsement or by holding an eligible prestigious prize as listed under the Global Talent visa rules.

The relevant fields are:

  • Science;
  • Engineering;
  • Medicine;
  • Social sciences;
  • Humanities;
  • Arts and culture (including film and television, fashion design and architecture); and
  • Digital technology – including financial technology (‘fintech’), gaming, cyber security, and artificial intelligence (AI).

There is no UK job offer requirement and dependants can apply under this route.

Key requirements

While requirements vary by individual circumstances, the main criteria are:

  • Age: Applicants must be 18 or over
  • Endorsement: Applicants must hold an endorsement from a Home Office-approved body or have won an eligible award.

The process has two stages:

  • Endorsement: Secure approval from an endorsing body or show evidence of an eligible award
  • Visa application: Apply for UK immigration permission.

What does it allow?

You can undertake any kind of work, including self-employment and voluntary work, except for employment as a professional sportsperson or coach.

You choose how long to stay, up to five years per application, with no overall time limit.

This visa also offers a route to settlement after three or five years, depending on your endorsement category and whether you hold an eligible prestigious prize.

How do I get endorsed under the Global Talent visa?

Endorsing bodies set their own criteria and documentation requirements. These vary depending on whether you apply as exceptional talent or exceptional promise.

Approved endorsing bodies include:

  • Arts and culture – Arts Council England
  • Film and television – PACT
  • Architecture – Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
  • Fashion design – British Fashion Council
  • Digital technology – Tech Nation
  • Natural and medical science – Royal Society
  • Engineering – Royal Academy of Engineering
  • Humanities and Social Science – British Academy
  • Science and research – UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Settlement eligibility depends on your endorsement type and endorsing body.
