New Tax-free Childcare Scheme Delayed until 2017
The Government's new tax-free childcare scheme which was due to launch in the Autumn has been delayed. It will not now be launched until early 2017.
The delay follows an unsuccessful challenge to the government's decision to use an existing outsourcing contract to deliver the scheme rather than put it out to tender. This resulted in the development of the scheme being suspended while the legal challenge took place.
Exact roll-out details of the scheme will be confirmed "in due course".
The scheme will enable working families to claim 20% of childcare costs for children under 12, capped at £2,000 per child per year.
